The Parents Birthday Weekend
by John Doroshenk, posted 2/25/2011 10:40:36 AM
This past weekend the family got together for a giant weekend celebration for Mom and Dad's 70th Birthdays.  We ended up renting a great house down at Lake Anna in order to get family pictures not taken in our living room.

The Family at the Lake

The outside of the house had a big deck, a basketball/tennis court, a football field, kayaks, putting greens, a dock, a fire pit, and was situated on a peninsula that was about 1/2 mile when you go around the perimeter.  So we were constantly being seen running in circles trying to burn off all the cookies we were eating.

We brought along a giant homemade puzzle that was over 1500 pieces that entailed a collage of tons of pictures over the years.  It pretty much consumed up our indoor time trying to finish before we left.

The fishing was pretty slow until Joe made the decision to go out and get some night crawlers to use as bait.  After that, a constant stream of fish were being caught.

For food we ended up each cooking 2 meals for everyone, which turned out to be a nice way to not have to think about cooking for almost all your meals.  It worked out great even when we were all sitting around one morning not eating until Rebecca asked "Is it my turn to cook breakfast?"  Everyone immediately said YES.

My favorite part was the last night with what might be the only time I remeber the entire family hanging out at a camp fire.  It was a great way to end our wonderful trip.

John - You captured the whole weekend beautifully.  Dad and I are so blessed to have such wonderful, thoughtful children and their families.  We can't thank all of you enough.
