This Easter, Kelly and I made a surprise visit to Virginia to visit the family.

Family Picture 2010
We arrived Friday afternoon at National Airport and hopped on the metro to get to Springfield. The plan was to have my Mom invite Alexa and Mary's families over for dinner and we'd be the surprise guests.
Alexa, Nate and Declan were already on the back porch hanging out with Dad when we all pulled up. Kelly and I walked around the side to the porch and I asked "What's for dinner". Dad looked shocked, Alexa screamed, and Declan cried. Overall a rather funny moment.
Next up, Mary and her family arrived. We ordered pizza which ended up beating them to the house, so Kelly and I grabbed the pizzas to the side of the house so we could deliver them to Mary. As we approached the door, Madeline exclaims "Uncle John's got pizza". Not sure if Mary thought she meant Papa John's or not, but it was still funny.
The next morning, Kelly and I ran around Accotink and got home in time for a quick visit from the Harrisons. They came back later for a little longer visit. It was nice to see the girls again. They are getting so old now.
Joe, Rebecca, and Sevi showed up next. So the rest of the night was eating, drinking and talking on the porch. We also watched as Sevi and Madeline decorated 2 dozen easter eggs.

Sevi and Madeline Making Easter Eggs
Easter Sunday started off with Joe, Kelly, and I running as a warm up for the egg hunt. We all loaded up on candy and coffee and the egg hunt was on. Same rules that usually apply, find an egg, report it to Dad, and then go back to the hunt. This year, eggs got you an envelope or a lotto ticket. I think everybody won something with Mary being the overall grand champion in prize money.

Rebecca a big Winner!
Monday morning, Mary, Kelly, and I ran along the new Accotink trail with Mary and I wearing our awesome VFF shoes. Then Joe and the gang headed to the beach for the week. Alexa and Declan came over for lunch and we all spent more time hanging out on the porch. That night Kelly and I visited Jeremiah and Emily to take a quick tour of their new house. Very nice indeed! We watched stupid Duke win the NCAA tournament and headed to bed.
Tuesday we were to leave for the airport around noon. However we were fascinated in the backyard around 11:30 with the sighting of around 8-10 garter snakes swarming the backyard. It was quite a sight. Mom was very excited over the snakes. So much that on the drive to the airport, she shrieked when Joe called her cell phone and made it vibrate.
We had an uneventful flight home and thus ended our fantastic Easter Surprise Visit. It was too short but we were glad to see everyone we did. If we missed seeing you, hopefully our next visit will be longer.
